Organic Islands® is a family firm which cultivates organic aromatic plants and herbs.
We are based on the Cycladic island of Naxos, in Greece. An island far from any source of contamination, with ideal climate and soil conditions for growing organic herbs. The firm was founded in October 2010.
Our farms are located in two areas of the island,Sangri, a small village at the centre of the island 15km from the town of Naxos and Eggares village, 7Km from the town of Naxos, Chora. We started out planting Melissa Officinalis and by the end of 2013 we were growing 8 different aromatic and medicinal plants and herbs aiming to produce 12-14 species at the end of 2014.
An area of 12.000 m2 in total was initialy cultivated in 2010.
During 2013 the total cultivated area reached 28.000 m2, expanding to 50.000 m2 in 2014 and targeting 150.000 m2 by the end of 2016.
Organic Islands® is the first and still the only firm in the Cyclades that cultivates certified organic aromatic and medicinal plants and herbs. The climate and soil of the island are ideal for these plants. Sunshine and lack of water, along with traditional cultivation methods ensure that our aromatic plants are of the highest quality. Our products are rich in essential oils and this is what gives them their distinct aroma and flavor, as unique as the land where we have our roots.
We strongly believe in the practices and values of organic farming and one of our main aims is to persuade others on the island of Naxos as well as of the Cyclades to follow our path. Traditional practices together with today's knowledge and technology can protect the environment (air, soil, water, flora, fauna) and produce valuable, wholesome rich in aroma organic products.
