ORGANIC HONEY THE FAMILY BEEZ

Image
As the ferry reaches the island's port, the visitor sees huge rocks rising in front of him. This first picture does not flatter the island. But if you look more carefully and see the endless white beach next to the port and high above the settlement of Chora, you understand why Serifos is considered one of the most beautiful Cyclades islands. The family beekeeping business  Rota , in an attempt to offer its children quality honey, started producing thyme honey 40 years ago on the island of Serifos. Only bee-friendly techniques have been used to produce this fine honey. They believe that the organic raw honey is a gift Greek nature offers to us.  George  and  Lily  decided to bottle it and share it with you.  THE FAMILY BEEZ Produced in an area protected and declared as NATURA 2000 and is LIMITED PRODUCTION.  more:  FAMiLY BeeZ

Re-discover the pleasure of using soap bars

Image
Origin History The earliest recorded evidence of the production of soap-like materials dates back to around 2800 BC in Ancient Babylon. In the reign of Nabonidus (556– 539 BCE) a recipe for soap consisted of uhulu [ashes], cypress [oil] and sesame [seed oil] "for washing the stones for the servant girls". A formula for soap consisting of water, alkali, and cassia oil was written on a Babylonian clay tablet around 2200 BC.  Olive oil has been used for generations throughout the mediterranean not only for its healing qualities but also the benefits of olive oil on the skin, body and hair. The ancient Roman and Egyptians used olive oil infused with fragrant herbs and flowers to moisturise and perfume their skin. An ancient Ayurvedic technique used a mixture of olive oil and water to maintain hydration and beautiful skin. Italian women have lovingly massaged their newborn babies with olive oil to protect their skin and prevent dryness and rashes. The chemical ...

The Special Taste and Flavour of Premium Extra Virgin Olive Oil From Greece’s Finest Olive Farms

Image
Greece produces about 15 percent of the world’s supply of olive oil, chosen by gourmets for its strong flavor and aroma. Olive oil, as anyone knows is available in different grades such as virgin olive oil and extra virgin olive oil also known as EVOO. Then there is the virgin grade and another known as pure olive or refined olive oil. The best of the pack is undoubtedly EVOO or extra virgin oil since it has low acidity (0.21), is produced from selected olives sourced from a single olive farm and cold pressed to preserve the natural taste, aroma and flavor. Pure olive oils, at the bottom of the scale are a mix of different oils from different farms and are refined, lacking the characteristic punch of the delightful and heady extra virgin grade olive oil. Extra virgin olive oil from different countries has different color, consistency and aroma. Greek extra virgin olive oil stands in a class apart for its characteristic pale green-yellow color and a distinguishing taste. This ...

THE BEST GREEK HONEY, AMBROSIA OF THE GODS OF OLYMPUS

Image
If you love honey, Greek honey is undoubtedly up there with the finest. Some people consider Thyme honey to be the best Greek honey, preferred by connoisseurs worldwide. There are several reasons why Greek honey is the best. Beekeepers in Greece follow age old traditions that date back thousands of years and maintain the finest honey bees. These bees have access to the finest and most variegated flora, summer sunshine and the best atmosphere, all of which influence quality, taste and consistency of the honey they produce. The best Greek honey is extracted exactly at the right time when it has matured in the hive and it is unfiltered to retain all its natural goodness known to man since ancient times. Bees fly miles to collect pollen and nectar from flowers. The nectar is regurgitated once they are back in the hives and fanned by countless bees to form a concentrated viscous liquid we know as honey. Honey has natural health giving properties, is a powerful antioxidant and has cu...

HEALTH BENEFITS OF DRIED FIGS

Image
Rich in simple sugars, figs are an excellent source of readily available energy that rank among the sweetest tasting fruits. Like the comparably carbohydrate-dense date, dried figs are sometimes referred to as “nature’s candy.” Unlike candy, however, a fig's sweet package contains high levels of dietary fiber, potassium, magnesium, calcium, manganese and vitamin K, as well as significant amounts of protein, iron, thiamine, riboflavin, vitamin B6 and antioxidant phenols. Fresh figs are delicate and short-lived after they are harvested. Consequently, roughly 90 percent of the world’s cultivated figs are dried for consumption. Whether eaten as is or incorporated into meals, figs contribute important nutrients in addition to quick energy. Fresh Vs. Dried Drying fresh fruit removes its water content, concentrating its nutrients in the process. Consequently, dried figs provide significantly higher amounts of macronutrients, vitamins, minerals, phytonutrients and calories than the...

Natural Sea Salt, Perfect For Seasoning the Finest Gourmet Dishes and Heightening Taste

Image
If you watch chefs prepare their delectable offerings, one thing you will notice is that invariably they use natural sea salt as seasoning. There is a good reason. Natural sea salt is obtained evaporating ocean water that contains salt and other chemicals such as potassium and iodine salts. Apart from that an interesting fact is that sea water salt content is similar to the salt content in human blood and cells, making out a good case for using only natural sea salt, and not table or processed salts, as being good for health. You may or may not know it but table salt is processed and has additives like aluminum salts and potassium iodide. Aluminum causes kidney disorders and brain damage. Natural sea salt contains nicely balanced iron, sulphur, iodine and magnesium apart from sodium chloride in the right proportions. It is actually preferred if you care about your health. Blessed with abundant sunshine and a large number of islands, Greece has an ancient tradition of making ...
